- One of my principal responsibilities has been the organisation and facilitation of the iCLA Student Gala, a student-led exhibition and performance event that provides opportunities for students to present creative work across a range of disciplines. The Gala functions as both an exhibition and a live performance space, where students exhibit artwork, perform music, and often develop additional activities such as fashion shows, workshops, interactive installations, and other collaborative projects. The event has been held every semester since I joined the university in 2019, resulting in fourteen Galas to date. While each iteration has differed in scale and success, the most effective events have been those in which students assume ownership of the creative process. My role is to establish the framework, provide guidance and mentorship, and help students develop and realise their ideas rather than directing every aspect of the project. Throughout the planning process, I work closely with students to refine proposals, solve practical challenges, encourage collaboration across disciplines, and support them in presenting ambitious work to a public audience. By facilitating rather than prescribing outcomes, the Gala encourages independence, creative confidence, teamwork, and professional experience in exhibition-making and event production. The project has become an important component of the creative culture within the college and provides students with valuable experience that extends beyond the classroom.
